Why Prions Matter
Prions disease matter because of many different reasons, the main being people are dying from it everyday and it is very painful imagine starving to death do to prion disease. Even though it's rare it is still important. Prions teach us about food safety, brain science.
Prions teach us about the brain, studying prions can help us understand many brain diseases like Alzheimers and Parkinson's disease which also deal with misfolded proteins.
They influence food safety for example outbreaks in mad cow disease showed that prions can be spread through food.
